High Water on the Colorado River

High Water is coming and it’s looking like it’s going to be “Huge” this year. I’ve heard this line a few times in my 30 some-odd years living in Moab Utah, so I’m always the skeptic when it comes to everyone running around saying it’s going to be the 100 year flow.
True: there is alot of snow in the mountains draining into our Mighty Colorado.
True: there is snow happening at this very moment above 6,000 feet.
But also True that we are having a cool spring, with a few days of hot, then a few days of cool weather. So the only thing we can wait for now is to see what the weather does and how fast the snow is going to come down. I do believe it’s going to be a good water year, perhaps it will come up to a decent level and hang for a few weeks… but a 100 year flow? I guess we’ll see. Of course, part of my skepticism stems from the fact that my personal guess for our local ‘high water pool’ is so darn low I really should just buy my beer payoff now and get it over with. 30,000 cfs???? What was I thinking!!
Here’s the site we’re going off of in case anyone out there is interested: Colorado river outside Moab

Shopping for Chacos

Our store just got in the new, chick, chic Chaco sandals for spring. I believe they’ve been on the shelves for about one week and they are just flying out the door. We’ve sold 4 pairs just today and I wanted to put it out there if anyone is looking for a particular size.

Go to Canyon Voyages Adventure Co. give a call, and get yourself set for the summer! Have a great spring!

Is Winter really over?

Hard to believe it’s the beginning of March already. Our outside temps have soared, and we’re now comfortably in the low 50′s. Not much green coming out yet, except for the weeds in my yard, but there is promise in the air. My boating friend and I headed out to meet some other crazies and had a great time. The water is still wicked cold, but if you zoom in you’ll see nothing but smiles. In the area and want to boat like this? Check out Canyon Voyages, Moab Utah. May all beings have fun in the sport of their choice! Buddha would have said that!!

Getting First Aid in the Desert

Hard to believe it’s the middle of February already. Spent last week inside, learning more about being a Wilderness First Responder for the upcoming boating season. Fortunately we went outside to work on our practicals. Even spent one evening up on the Slickrock Bike Trail working on ‘what to do’ when one is out in the wilds. So much information- I’m feeling ready for anything!

It’s January, but it sure feels like Spring!

The end of January in Moab, Utah and the temps are already climbing into the mid- to high 40′s. Could it possibly be that winter is over? This is the desert, so it’s possible that, at least, the worst is over. Our boating and sports wear store is open, and we are already busy taking reservations for the boating to take place this up-coming season. Don and Molly went skiing at Powderhorn just the other day, and had a rockin’ good time. Sheri, on the other hand, will be out boating tomorrow and will try to get some pictures of the red rock with just a bit of snow left to show how beautiful it is around here. As if it isn’t beautiful at all times of the year!
